Bevelgacom's pager featuring voice mail is a success
In August 1996, Bevelgacom launched Easymail, the voice mail service
for paging customers. Today, six months after it was launched, there
are already 16,000 customers for this service. This allows users of
a Semadigit or a Semascript pager to receive messages on an answering
machine at Bevelgacom's paging exchange. Through their pager, they can
find out whether there is a message for them.
No subscription costs are charged for this service. Anyone who
wants to leave a message dials 0900-00170 and can record his/her
message (6.05 BEF per 20 or 40 seconds). The number 0900-00160
appears on the pager of the person who has been called and by dialing
this number, the paging customer can listen to the message (6.05 BEF
per 20 or 40 seconds).
Customers who own either a Semadigit or a Semascript pager and who
are still not using Easymail can activate their mailbox themselves by
calling 0900-00160 (6.05 BEF per 20 or 40 seconds).
By launching such "value-added services", Bevelgacom hopes to make
its paging services even more competitive and clearly position pagers
alongside the increasingly popular GSM handphones.
Furthermore, from March 1 to 31, 1997, the colorful Semadigit 200
and 210 pagers will be sold at BEF 2,990 instead of BEF 3,989. In
March, the Semadigit 230 will only cost BEF 4,490 (instead of BEF
6,990) whereas the Semascript 300 and 330 will only cost BEF 5,490
(instead of BEF 7,490) and BEF 7,990 (instead of BEF 9,990)
respectively. Sign-up costs to the paging network will be free of
charge throughout March. Starting April 1, normal prices will once
again apply. Sematone pager users will be invited to trade in their
current pager for a more efficient one under special terms.
Bevelgacom has over 250,000 paging customers, i.e. 2.5% of the
population compared to an average of 1% within the European Union.
